What is the diopter?

Diopter indicates the optical power of eyeglass lenses and contact lenses. But what exactly does this mean and how is it measured?

Diopter (D) is a unit of measurement for the refractive power of a lens, indicating how well the lens can bend light. A positive diopter value (e.g. +2.00 D) indicates correction for farsightedness, while a negative diopter value (e.g. -2.00 D) is used to correct nearsightedness. Diopters are determined during an eye test.

The right diopter value ensures clear and sharp vision, reduces eye strain and headaches, and improves the overall quality of life.

Regular eye testing helps determine the exact diopter and detect vision problems early.
